Songswipe

A Songswipe round: the year 2006 above a card for I'm Coming Out by Diana Ross with its album cover, three hearts, 0 of 10, and Before and After buttons

Songswipe shows a year at the top and a song card below, with the title, the artist, the cover and a clip you can play. You decide whether the song came out before or after that year, ten times a day, with three lives. A marathon mode lets you keep going.

About Songswipe

Songswipe is a quick daily music quiz about release dates. The screen shows a year in large type, such as 2006, and a card for a song, for example Diana Ross's I'm Coming Out, with its cover art and a play button for a clip. You press Before or After, or swipe the card, to say whether the song was released before or after that year.

The daily game runs ten songs with three lives, shown as hearts beside a progress bar. A wrong call costs a heart, and losing all three ends the day. When you finish, the result shares as a numbered line of hearts and a score out of ten. A streak counter sits in the corner.

Beyond the daily there is a marathon mode with its own high scores, settings for autoplaying clips, and statistics. The game is free in the browser and supported by ads and Patreon. It suits listeners who know roughly when their favourite songs came out.

How to play Songswipe

  1. Open play.songswipe.fun and press Play.
  2. Read the year at the top and the song on the card; play the clip if you want to hear it.
  3. Press Before if you think the song came out before that year, or After if later.
  4. A wrong answer costs one of your three hearts.
  5. Get through all ten songs, then share your numbered result.

Tips

  • Use the cover art: the album design often dates a record within a decade.
  • Listen to the production: drum sounds and synths are good clues to the era.
  • Remember re-releases do not count; think of when the song first came out.
  • Practise in marathon mode to learn the catalogue.
