Songle is the music game on Histordle, a small site of guess-the-year puzzles. Each day it lists three songs that came out in the same year, with artist and genre, and you have eight tries to name that year. The colour of each guess shows how far off you are, and you decide whether to go higher or lower.

About Songle (Histordle)

Histordle is a site of short history games run by a single history fan, all built on the same idea: show a few clues from one year and ask which year it was. Songle is the music edition. Its clues are three songs, each listed with the artist, the title and its genres, all released in the same year.

You type or tap in a year and submit. The box lights up in a different colour depending on how close you are, and from there it is up to you to judge whether to go higher or lower. You have eight tries. The genres are part of the clue: a mix of trap and pop rap points to a very different decade from disco or new wave.

If you want help before your first guess, a link on the page gives you a direction to start from. Your results feed a statistics panel with games played, win rate, current and longest streak, a distribution of how many guesses you needed, and the average number of years between your first guess and the answer.

A new Songle is posted every day at midnight Central Time. The site also has an unlimited Songle for more rounds, and sister games with the same rules: Yeardle for historical events, PopCultured for pop culture and Moviedle for films.

How to play Songle (Histordle)

  1. Open Songle and read the three songs, with their artists and genres.
  2. Enter the year you think all three were released and submit.
  3. Use the colour of the box to judge how close you are, then go higher or lower.
  4. Find the year within eight tries and check your statistics.

Tips

  • Start from the genres: they often place the year within a decade before you know any of the songs.
  • Guess the middle of your likely range first, so the feedback halves the search.
  • If you recognise one song, anchor on it and use the other two to rule out nearby years.
  • Use the direction hint for the first guess only when nothing in the list is familiar.
