SerpenTiles

Lay and turn a day's set of hex tiles into a coloured serpent that scores as many points as you can.

Every day: One numbered daily a day in r/SerpenTiles (SerpenTiles #252 in early October 2026): the same set of hex tiles and scoring mode for every player, with a leaderboard for that daily. New puzzle: A new daily is posted at 13:00 UTC.

A SerpenTiles serpent of dark hextiles on the hex board, crossed by yellow, cyan, pink, teal and orange lines

SerpenTiles is a calm tile-laying puzzle that runs inside Reddit, in r/SerpenTiles. Each daily hands every player the same set of hexagonal tiles marked with coloured lines; you place and rotate them on a hex board to join colours, then score and compare on that day's leaderboard.

About SerpenTiles

SerpenTiles comes from two small studios, Ancient Pixel and Hammertime Studio, and was built for Reddit's interactive posts. Its makers call it a meditative puzzle: there is no timer, and the pleasure is as much in watching the shape grow as in the score.

Each daily gives you a set of 16 to 48 hextiles, each crossed by coloured line segments. You lay them on a hex board, every new tile touching one already placed, and tap a placed tile to rotate it so its colours meet those of its neighbours. A bench at the bottom holds a few tiles at a time; press NEW on an empty slot to draw the next one. You may move tiles around as long as there is room on the bench, and when you are happy with your serpent you press Score now.

The score depends on the day's mode. In Cluster, every pair of matching colours scores and tiles joined on all sides earn a bonus. In Longest Lines only the longest line of each colour counts. In Most Circles only closed loops score. Pattern gives you very few tile kinds and asks you to make something pretty. Every daily has its own leaderboard, and you can post a snapshot of your serpent to the subreddit, which is mostly made of players sharing them.

It suits players who like tile-laying board games or path puzzles and want something slower and more open than a pass-or-fail daily. Colour-blind friendly tile themes are in the settings.

How to play SerpenTiles

  1. Open today's numbered SerpenTiles post in r/SerpenTiles and read the mode for the day.
  2. Place a tile from the bench next to a tile already on the board.
  3. Tap a placed tile to rotate it until its coloured lines meet its neighbours.
  4. Press NEW on an empty bench slot to draw the next tile, and keep building.
  5. Press Score now when you are done, then check the day's leaderboard.

Tips

  • Read the mode first: a layout that scores well in Cluster can score little in Longest Lines.
  • Use the colour filter at the bottom left to see which tiles carry the colour you are extending.
  • Keep a bench slot free so you can still pick up and move a tile late in the game.
