Quando Foi? is a daily timeline game from Brazilian portal UOL, made for its 30th anniversary. You start with one dated headline and place five more before or after it on a timeline, earning points for each one you put in the right spot.

About Quando Foi? (UOL)

Quando Foi? (When was it?) is part of UOL Jogos and is billed as the game of UOL's 30 years. Each day's round draws on headlines the portal published over three decades, mixing Brazilian news with world events: a recent set ran from the first Harry Potter book in 1997 to the Artemis II crew photographing the far side of the Moon in 2026.

The game opens with one headline and its date. You then get a new headline and drag it to a slot before or after the ones already on the timeline, depending on when you think it happened. You place five headlines in all; each correct placement is worth 200 points and each mistake costs 45, so a perfect round scores 1000. When you get one wrong, the card moves itself to the right position so the timeline stays correct.

Each day is numbered as a new phase, and the day's set comes from UOL's servers by date, so everyone plays the same headlines. Earlier editions can be opened from an archive that UOL reserves for its subscribers. It suits Portuguese speakers who follow the news and like testing their sense of when things happened.

How to play Quando Foi? (UOL)

  1. Read the opening headline and its date at the top of the timeline.
  2. Drag each new headline to the slot before or after the existing cards, according to when you think the event happened.
  3. Place five headlines; a wrong card is moved to its true position automatically.
  4. Score 200 points per correct placement, minus 45 per mistake, up to 1000.

Tips

  • Use the short description under each headline: it often contains a clue to the period.
  • Anchor on events you are sure of, then fit the others around them.
  • Brazilian and world events are mixed, so think about both when estimating a year.
