Numble (thenumble.app)

Wordle for arithmetic: find the day's seven-character equation in six guesses.

Every day: One numbered hidden seven-character equation a day (#1705 on 2 October 2026), generated from the date so everyone gets the same one, to find in six guesses with its result shown as a hint. New puzzle: Midnight local time.

Numble #1705 with an empty seven by six grid, the target '= 9' beside it, a number and operator keypad and 'Created by Rehan Ahmed'

Numble is a daily maths game by Rehan Ahmed, built like Wordle but with equations. You know the result of the hidden equation; every guess must also equal that value, and coloured tiles show which digits and operators are in the right place.

About Numble (thenumble.app)

Each day Numble hides an equation of seven characters made of digits and the operators plus, minus, times and divide. The one thing you are told is its value, for example 9. Every guess you enter must be a valid equation that also equals 9, which already limits what you can try. The tiles then light up as in Wordle: a character in the right place, a character that is in the equation but elsewhere, or a character that is not there at all.

The equation follows the usual order of operations (division and multiplication before addition and subtraction), and numbers cannot have leading zeros. You have six guesses. Puzzles are numbered from the start of the game in early 2022 and generated from the date, so everyone playing on the same day solves the same equation. A stats panel keeps your record and streak.

It suits Wordle players who enjoy arithmetic and anyone who likes Nerdle-style equation puzzles with a slightly different set of rules.

How to play Numble (thenumble.app)

  1. Look at the value shown to the right of the grid: the hidden equation equals it.
  2. Type a seven-character equation using digits and + - * / that also equals that value, and press Enter.
  3. Read the colours: right character in the right place, right character in the wrong place, or not in the equation.
  4. Use the clues to find the exact equation within six guesses.

Tips

  • Remember the order of operations: 2+3*1 is 5, not 5 times 1 done left to right.
  • Use your first guess to test several different operators and digits at once.
  • Leading zeros are not allowed, so 01 will be rejected.
  • If an operator is ruled out, many structures disappear; rebuild around what is left.
