Carve board on mindloftdaily.com: a grid of digits with ringed coloured anchor squares, and a row of block totals out of 30 below it

Carve is a free daily number puzzle from Mind Loft. A grid of digits has a few ringed, coloured anchor squares; grow one connected block from each anchor so the whole board is covered and every block sums to the day's target. Each board has exactly one valid carving.

About Carve (Mind Loft)

Carve mixes sums with territory. The day's grid is full of single digits, and a handful of squares carry a coloured ring: these are the anchors. Your job is to divide the whole board into connected blocks, one grown from each anchor, so that every block adds up to the same target, for example 30.

You pick a colour and tap squares next to its anchor to add them; a running total under the board shows how far each block has to go, and a block locks when it hits the target exactly. Tapping a painted square un-carves it, and there is a hint button. A wrong cut shakes red and counts as an error, so a clean carving with no errors earns a perfect score.

Mind Loft describes it as part arithmetic, part territory: watch the totals, find squares only one block can reach, and let each finished block squeeze the next. There is always exactly one carving the anchors allow. A new grid arrives every day at midnight Eastern, and Sundays use a 7x7 board with nine blocks.

How to play Carve (Mind Loft)

  1. Open Carve and press Start.
  2. Pick an anchor colour from the row of totals below the board.
  3. Tap squares touching that colour's block to add them; watch its total climb toward the target.
  4. A block locks when it hits the target exactly; carve every square of the board into a block.

Tips

  • Start with squares in corners or between two anchors that only one block can possibly reach.
  • Large digits fill a block quickly, so give them to blocks that are short of the target.
  • When a block is a few points short, look for the one neighbouring digit that finishes it exactly.
