Add Up (Metro)
Rate itBuild a number pyramid where each cell is the sum of the two below it.
Every day: One new number pyramid each day, the same for every player: a bottom row of five numbers to build up into a single total at the top. New puzzle: Not stated on the page; Metro calls it a daily puzzle..

Add Up is Metro's daily arithmetic pyramid. You are given the five numbers along the bottom and fill in every cell above by adding the two numbers beneath it, up to one total at the top. It is free to play in the browser on Metro.co.uk, with a timer and a hint button.
About Add Up (Metro)
Add Up is one of the puzzles on Metro.co.uk, the website of the free UK newspaper Metro. Metro added it to its puzzle section in April 2025, alongside its crosswords, sudoku and word games, and describes it as a daily puzzle to improve your number skills.
The board is a pyramid of circles, five on the bottom row and one at the top. The bottom row comes filled in; on the day we looked it read 1, 14, 8, 16 and 2. Every other circle takes the sum of the two circles directly below it, so you work row by row up the pyramid, typing each answer on the on-screen number pad, until the top circle holds the total of the whole board.
There is no guessing or deduction involved, so a day's pyramid is a short exercise in mental addition rather than a logic puzzle. A timer runs while you play (it can be paused or switched off in the rules box), Hint fills in help when you are stuck and Check tells you whether your numbers are right. When you finish, the page offers a link to share the puzzle with friends.
Add Up is free and needs no account, with adverts around the board. It suits anyone who wants a quick daily sum to keep arithmetic sharp, and is simple enough for older children practising addition.
How to play Add Up (Metro)
- Open Add Up on Metro.co.uk; the day's pyramid loads with its bottom row of five numbers already filled in.
- Tap an empty circle in the second row from the bottom.
- Add the two numbers directly below it and type the sum on the number pad.
- Fill every circle in that row, then move up and do the same with the row you just completed.
- Carry on until the top circle holds the final total, then press Check to see whether every number is right.
Tips
- Work along a whole row before moving up, so every sum you need is already on the board.
- Check each row as you go: one wrong sum near the bottom carries into every cell above it.
- Numbers grow quickly toward the top, so add in your head in two steps, tens and then units.
- Switch off the timer in the Rules box if you would rather not be timed.
