Jigsy boards: coloured polyomino pieces around a white grid, one piece being rotated, and a partly filled grid

Jigsy is a daily spatial puzzle with three grids a day: Classic, Pro and Extreme. You drag shapes into a grid, rotate them and switch each between normal and double size, until every cell is filled with no gaps.

About Jigsy

Jigsy is an independent puzzle by Chris Dawson in Bath. It looks like a tiling or jigsaw puzzle, but with a twist: any piece can be scaled between its normal size and twice as big, so you have to decide how large each shape should be as well as where it goes.

Every day there are three new grids. Classic is the gentle one, Pro is billed as the daily habit, and Extreme has a bigger grid with more to place. The pieces lie around a white grid that may contain grey obstacle cells. You drag pieces in (they snap to the grid), rotate them a quarter turn at a time and scale them up or down, and the grid is solved when all the pieces fit with no gaps and no overlaps.

A timer and move counter run while you play, and finishing shows how your time compares with other players worldwide. A free account keeps your streak and puts you on a weekly leaderboard; a one-off premium purchase opens the full archive and extras such as a triangle version. There is also a ten-level challenge that teaches the scaling idea step by step.

It suits people who like tangrams, pentomino puzzles and other shape-fitting games, and who want a short daily puzzle that rewards spatial reasoning rather than words or numbers.

How to play Jigsy

  1. Open Jigsy and choose Classic, Pro or Extreme.
  2. Drag a piece from around the grid into position; it snaps to the nearest cell.
  3. Press R (or use two fingers) to rotate a piece by 90 degrees.
  4. Press S or space (or pinch) to switch a piece between normal and double size.
  5. Fill the whole white grid with every piece, avoiding grey obstacles, to finish.

Tips

  • Decide early which pieces must be doubled; a large empty area usually needs a scaled-up piece.
  • Place pieces next to the grey obstacles first, since they have the fewest options.
  • Start with Classic each day to warm up before Pro and Extreme.
