Domino Fit how-to-play: an empty grid with row and column targets, then the same grid filled with dominoes whose dots add up

Domino Fit is a daily tiling puzzle. Fill a grid with two kinds of domino, an upright one with one dot and a sideways one with two, so the dots in each row and column add up to the numbers at the edges; each board has exactly one solution.

About Domino Fit

Domino Fit is a small logic puzzle by Joseph Caero. The board is an empty grid with a target number beside every row and column. You fill it completely with dominoes of two kinds, an upright 0-1 and a sideways 0-2, which cannot be rotated, so that the dots in every line add up to its target.

The web version gives you new boards every day in three sizes, 6x6, 7x7 and 8x8. They are taken by date from a fixed list of more than 27,000 levels, numbered from the first daily in February 2024, so everyone plays the same ones. Each has a single solution. Solving without a mistake earns a wizard mark, and the game tracks solves, streaks and solve times.

The daily web game is free. A one-dollar desktop version on Steam generates endless boards for people who want more.

It suits fans of Kakuro, Tents and other number-placement puzzles who like a clean rule set and a single answer.

How to play Domino Fit

  1. Open Domino Fit and pick today's 6x6, 7x7 or 8x8 board.
  2. Cover every cell with upright 0-1 and sideways 0-2 dominoes (tap or right-click to swap type).
  3. Make the dots in each row and column add up to the number shown at its edge.
  4. Fill the board correctly to solve it and extend your streak.

Tips

  • Rows or columns with a 0 cannot contain any dots, which forces where the blank halves go.
  • Count how many dots a line needs against how many dominoes cross it.
  • Try to solve without mistakes for the wizard mark.
