A Hashi grid of numbered islands joined by single and double bridges, from puzzle-bridges.com

Hashi, short for Hashiwokakero and also called Bridges, is a puzzle of numbered islands that you connect with straight bridges until each island has as many bridges as its number. Puzzle-bridges.com has a dated Special Daily Hashi for all players, with grids from 7x7 to 25x25 and weekly and monthly specials.

About Daily Hashi

A Hashi grid shows islands, each holding a number from 1 to 8, with open water between them. You draw bridges in straight lines across or down between pairs of islands. A pair can be joined by one bridge or two but no more, bridges may not cross each other or pass over an island, and the number on each island is the total of bridges touching it. When the puzzle is done, every island must be linked into one connected group.

The daily game on puzzle-bridges.com is the Special Daily Hashi. All players get the same set of islands on a given date, which is shown under the grid; on 2 October 2026 the daily was 30 by 30. The site also offers Easy, Normal, Hard and Dense grids in 7x7, 10x10, 15x15 and 25x25, weekly and monthly specials, and a Hall of Fame for the standard sizes. It is free with ads, patrons can hide them, and the site links to the PuzzleGym app for iPhone and Android. Patrons of the site can go back through the last 30 daily puzzles; everyone else plays the current day's.

Hashi suits players who like puzzles that move quickly once they start: a single forced bridge often settles the islands around it. The large daily board keeps that going for a good while.

How to play Daily Hashi

  1. Open the Special Daily Hashi on puzzle-bridges.com; the date of the puzzle is shown below the grid.
  2. Click an island and drag toward another island in the same row or column, then release when both are highlighted to draw a bridge.
  3. Repeat on the same pair to add a second bridge; no pair may have more than two.
  4. Keep bridges straight, and do not let them cross other bridges or run over islands.
  5. Give every island exactly as many bridges as its number, and make sure all islands join into one group.
  6. Submit the finished board to check it and see your time.

Tips

  • An island with a number equal to twice its count of neighbours needs double bridges to all of them: a 4 with two neighbours, a 6 with three, an 8 with four.
  • An island one below that limit, such as a 3 with two neighbours or a 5 with three, needs at least one bridge to every neighbour.
  • Two 1s next to each other cannot be joined, and neither can two 2s by a double bridge, since that pair would be cut off from the rest.
  • After each bridge, check which neighbours are now blocked by it; a crossing line can leave an island with only one way out.
