Capitalibrate (GuessDash)
Aim from one capital to another and guess how far it is.
Every day: A daily run of five rounds, the same for everyone: from one capital, set the compass bearing and distance to another, scored up to 1,000 points a round. New puzzle: Midnight in the Netherlands (GuessDash renews its games by the date in Europe/Amsterdam).

Capitalibrate gives you two capital cities per round. You stand in the first, set a compass bearing toward the second and a distance along the shortest route on the globe, and your landing point is scored against the real one. Each daily run has five rounds worth up to 1,000 points each.
About Capitalibrate (GuessDash)
Capitalibrate is a GuessDash game about the shape of the world. Each round shows a source capital and a target capital. You choose the direction you would leave the source along the shortest path around the globe, with 0 degrees as north and 90 as east, then set the distance in kilometres or miles.
Your bearing and distance together make a landing point. A perfect round is worth 1,000 points: the landing point's closeness to the target counts for 65 percent, the bearing for 20 and the distance for 15. After each guess the map shows the real route, your route and how far you missed. The game's guide points out the traps of flat maps: long routes bend toward the poles, and Pacific routes can cross the map edge.
It is one of more than twenty daily games on GuessDash, a site of geography, history, art, data and estimation puzzles that all renew together each day, with a countdown on the home page. No account is needed to play; signing up keeps your results.
It suits players of Worldle and GeoGuessr who want to test their sense of direction and distance rather than names.
How to play Capitalibrate (GuessDash)
- Open guessdash.com/capitalibrate and start the daily run.
- Read the source capital (where you are) and the target capital.
- Set the compass to the direction the shortest globe route starts.
- Set the distance in kilometres or miles and submit.
- Compare your route with the real one, and play all five rounds.
Tips
- Decide the quadrant first; north or south matters more than an exact degree.
- Remember great-circle routes: Europe to East Asia starts heading north-east, not east.
- A good distance can rescue a slightly wrong bearing, since the landing point carries most of the score.
