Bloom on Stoop

Bloom #128: a 14x14 grid of muted colours with six colour buttons below and the scoring table beside it

Bloom is a daily flood-fill puzzle from Stoop. You start in the top-left corner and pick colours to spread your territory until the whole 14x14 grid is one colour, and your move count is scored against par. One grid a day, one attempt, the same for everyone.

About Bloom

Bloom publishes a new 14x14 grid of six colours at midnight UTC, numbered and identical for every player. Your territory begins in the top-left cell. Each time you press a colour, it swallows every touching cell of that colour, and the aim is to cover the whole board in as few presses as possible.

There is only one try at the daily grid. The score is measured against par, the move count found by the site's solver: matching or beating par earns 10,000 points and a Perfect Bloom, and each move over costs points, down through ranks such as Green Thumb and Learning to Grow.

The puzzle is all planning. Nothing is hidden and nothing is random once the grid is set, so a good run comes from looking a few moves ahead and choosing the colour that opens the largest new front rather than the one that grabs the most cells now.

Beyond the daily grid there is a Levels mode with 240 boards in four rule sets: Classic, Seed (territory grows from pre-coloured tiles), Virus (a spreading colour) and Token (each colour has limited uses). Bloom is free, needs no account and shows no ads, and sits beside Stoop's other dailies such as Palette and CocktailGuessr.

How to play Bloom

  1. Open the daily grid: your territory is the top-left cell.
  2. Press one of the six colour buttons below the grid.
  3. Your territory absorbs every touching cell of that colour.
  4. Keep choosing colours until the whole grid is one colour.
  5. Compare your move count with par and share your score.

Tips

  • Look at the colours just beyond your edge, not only the ones touching it: the best move often opens a big area for the next one.
  • Sweep across the board in large moves rather than picking off small patches.
  • Practise in Levels mode, since the daily grid gives only one attempt.

Questions
