Better Minesweeper is a free, heavily customisable Minesweeper for Windows and Linux, with replays, deep statistics and a no-guess mode. Its Daily Run gives everyone the same solvable board each day, so you can race friends on it and keep a streak going.
About Better Minesweeper
Better Minesweeper is by a developer working as Pyrite Standard. It began as a free beta on itch.io and came to Steam in early access in June 2026, also free. The aim is plain: classic Minesweeper with the options competitive and casual players ask for, such as reveal on press, flag painting, several chording styles and first-click safety, plus fully remappable inputs and custom skins.
Around the board it adds a real-time probability calculator, a no-guess mode that removes forced 50/50s, a replay system with links you can share, more than 40 stats with custom stat building, and extra modes such as an aim trainer and Worse Minesweeper.
The Daily Run is one board a day, taken from a database of pre-made seeds that can all be solved by logic, so every player gets the same board. It switches over at midnight UTC. You can compare your time and stats with friends and share seeds of other boards; daily results do not count towards your normal personal bests or the leaderboards. Playing on consecutive days builds a streak that raises the game's XP and coin multiplier.
It suits Minesweeper regulars who want a fair, solvable board to race each day, and newcomers who want a free, tidy version of the classic.
How to play Better Minesweeper
- Install Better Minesweeper from Steam; it is free.
- Open the Daily Run from the main hub.
- Click a tile to start, then use the numbers to work out where the mines are.
- Flag the mines and reveal every safe tile as quickly as you can.
- Compare your time with friends, and come back after midnight UTC for the next board.
