What's the Number?
Rate itFive numbers, four blanks, one target: fill in the operators against the clock.
Every day: One numbered puzzle a day, the same for everyone: five numbers, four blanks and a target, timed, with every other solution to find afterwards. New puzzle: Midnight India Standard Time (18:30 UTC).

What's the Number? gives you five numbers in a fixed order and a target. Drop a plus, minus, times or divide into each of the four gaps so the line comes out right, as fast as you can. The time is your score, and then you can hunt down the puzzle's other answers.
About What's the Number?
What's the Number? is a daily arithmetic puzzle from What's the Game?. Each day's numbered puzzle shows five numbers with a blank between each pair and a target after the equals sign, for example 7, 4, 8, 2 and 3 making 29. The numbers stay hidden until you start, because the clock starts with them.
You fill each blank with +, −, × or ÷. Standard order of operations applies, so multiplying and dividing happen before adding and subtracting, and there are no brackets; the numbers never move. The clock stops the moment your line hits the target, and that time is your result for the day.
If you are stuck, a hint shows one operator from a real answer and adds 30 seconds, then a minute, then a minute and a half for the next ones, up to three and only before your first answer. Every puzzle has more than one solution and tells you how many, so once you are done the clock stays stopped while you look for the rest.
There is a daily leaderboard of times, and a Blitz mode for more practice: four numbers, three blanks and two and a half minutes to solve as many as you can. Daily puzzle number one appeared on 28 August 2026.
How to play What's the Number?
- Open Today's puzzle; the numbers appear when the clock starts.
- Choose +, −, × or ÷ for each of the four blanks between the five numbers.

Tips
- Look at the target first: if it is far bigger than the numbers, you will need a × somewhere.
- Work out what a × between two neighbours gives before you fill the rest.
- Avoid hints unless you are really stuck: each one adds more time than the last.
