Weather Memoku is a daily Puzzmo puzzle that mixes the card game Memory with a sudoku rule. You flip hidden tiles on a 6x6 grid to find matching pictures, knowing that each picture appears once in every row and every column. The pictures change with the weather where you are.

About Weather Memoku (Puzzmo)

Weather Memoku is one of the daily games on Puzzmo, the puzzle site that also runs Really Bad Chess, Typeshift and SpellTower. It takes Puzzmo's number game Memoku, shrinks it to a 6x6 board and swaps the numbers for little illustrations tied to the forecast, so a rainy day looks different from a sunny or snowy one. Puzzmo announced it as a cross between Memory and sudoku, with forecast animations supplied by The Weather Channel.

Each day there is one free board, the same for everyone, plus a bonus board for Puzzmo Plus members. A few tiles start face up. You turn the others over two at a time, trying to find pairs, and every flip tells you something: each of the six pictures sits exactly once in each row and once in each column, so a tile you have seen rules that picture out of the rest of its row and column. Keep matching until the whole grid is uncovered.

What sets it apart from a plain memory game is that you are not relying on luck or recall alone; logic narrows down where a match can be, and a good flip can be worked out rather than guessed. The board is small and the game is forgiving, so it suits a short, calm break, and it works well for people who like sudoku but want something gentler.

How to play Weather Memoku (Puzzmo)

  1. Open today's Weather Memoku on Puzzmo; a few tiles on the 6x6 grid are already face up.
  2. Flip a hidden tile to see its picture, then flip another to look for its match.
  3. Use the rule that every picture appears once in each row and once in each column to work out where a match must be.
  4. Keep pairing tiles until the whole grid is revealed.

Tips

  • Before flipping, look at the face-up tiles: each one rules its picture out of a whole row and column.
  • When a row has only one or two hidden tiles left, you can often tell which pictures they must be.
  • Flip into the most constrained row or column first so each reveal tells you more.
  • Take it slowly; there is no penalty for thinking between flips.
