A Memoku sudoku grid with some numbers revealed

Memoku is a daily Puzzmo puzzle that crosses the memory card game with sudoku. You turn over hidden numbers to find matching pairs, and the sudoku rule that a number cannot repeat in a row, column or box tells you where a match can and cannot be.

About Memoku

Memoku grew out of Weather Memoku, which Zach Gage and Jack Schlesinger launched on Puzzmo in October 2024: a memory game on a sudoku-style grid whose pictures follow your local forecast. The number version, Memoku, became a regular daily game and was one of the headline features when Puzzmo's iPhone app arrived in May 2025. Puzzmo's credits list Gage and Schlesinger for the design.

The board is a sudoku grid with some numbers showing and the rest face down. You flip cells looking for pairs, as in the memory game, but the sudoku rule does a lot of the work: a number cannot appear twice in the same row, column or box, so a revealed 7 tells you where the other 7s cannot be. Good play is a mix of remembering what you have seen and reasoning about what is left.

Everyone gets the same board for the date, and your time and points are recorded when you finish. Weather Memoku is still on Puzzmo's daily page next to it, for players who prefer pictures to numbers.

It suits sudoku players who want something lighter, and memory game players who want a bit more logic.

How to play Memoku

  1. Open today's Memoku on puzzmo.com or in the Puzzmo app.
  2. Look at the numbers already showing on the sudoku grid.
  3. Flip two hidden cells to look for a matching pair of numbers.
  4. Use the rule that a number cannot repeat in a row, column or box to decide where to look next.
  5. Match every pair to finish the board and record your score.

Tips

  • Before flipping, check which numbers are already placed in a box; the missing ones are what you are hunting for.
  • When you reveal a number, rule out its row, column and box for its partner.
  • Work in one box at a time so you have fewer cells to remember.
  • Flip cells where only one or two numbers are still possible; they are the safest guesses.

Questions

Is Memoku free?

Yes, the daily Memoku is free on Puzzmo. Puzzmo Plus costs $39.99 a year on puzzmo.com, with a seven-day free trial, or $3.99 a month or $39.99 a year through the iPhone app. It opens the archive of past puzzles and adds bonus puzzles.

What time does the new Memoku come out?

Puzzmo's day turns over at midnight US Central Time, when the whole daily page, this game included, switches to the next date. Everyone gets the same puzzle for that date.

What is the difference between Memoku and Weather Memoku?

Memoku uses numbers. Weather Memoku, launched first in October 2024, uses pictures that follow your local weather. Both are on Puzzmo's daily page.

Do I need to be good at sudoku?

No. You only need the basic rule that a number cannot repeat in a row, column or box.
