A real-time dungeon crawler where the day's seed builds the same dungeon of doom for everyone.

Every day: The Daily Dungeon: a full dungeon generated from that day's seed, the same layout, puzzles and monsters for every player, with an online leaderboard for the day. A Weekly Dungeon works the same way over a week, and your grave can turn up in other players' daily and weekly runs. New puzzle: Once a day (time not stated by the developer).

Unexplored is Ludomotion's real-time roguelite in which you descend a generated dungeon to slay a dragon and bring the Amulet of Yendor back up. Its Daily Dungeon builds the same dungeon for every player from a daily seed and ranks runs on an online leaderboard, with a Weekly Dungeon alongside.

About Unexplored

Unexplored is a top-down action roguelite developed and published by Ludomotion. It left Steam Early Access in February 2017 and is sold for Windows, macOS and Linux. The goal is the old roguelike one: find the dragon in the depths of the dungeon of doom, slay it, take the Amulet of Yendor and carry it back to the surface. Combat is real-time, dual-wielding melee, and you can pause to manage your inventory and use items.

What players praise most is the level generator. Floors loop back on themselves with locks and keys, shortcuts, hub floors and puzzles in the style of old Zelda games, so a generated dungeon feels planned rather than random. Over fifty bosses, many kinds of monsters and traps, and stealth fill out each run.

The Daily Dungeon arrived with the full release, which the developers announced with leaderboards for daily and weekly dungeons based on daily seeds. Everyone plays the same dungeon that day: in a December 2023 Steam thread, a player stuck on one daily seed got help from another who had hit the same room. A later feature lets other players find your final resting place in daily and weekly runs.

Unexplored is an older game with a small player base now, so the daily leaderboard is often short, but the mode was still in use in 2023 and 2024 forum threads. A daily run can take a long time, since it is a whole dungeon rather than a short challenge.

How to play Unexplored

  1. From the main menu, choose the Daily Dungeon (an internet connection is needed).
  2. Explore the day's dungeon floor by floor, fighting in real time and pausing to use items when needed.
  3. Find keys, solve puzzles and choose routes downward toward the dragon.
  4. Slay the dragon, take the Amulet of Yendor and bring it back to the surface, or see how far you got.
  5. Check the daily leaderboard, then come back the next day for a new seed.

Tips

  • Do not rush: a daily run is a full dungeon, so set aside an hour or more, or play the Weekly Dungeon if you have less time.
  • Use the pause to drink potions and swap items in a tight fight instead of trying to do it in real time.
  • If a path seems blocked, look for a secret door, a lever or a prayer spot; daily players on the forum have got past barred rooms that way.

Questions

Is the Unexplored Daily Dungeon the same for everyone?

Yes. It is generated from a daily seed, so every player gets the same dungeon that day and is ranked on the same leaderboard.

Is there a weekly mode too?

Yes. The Weekly Dungeon is a shared dungeon that stays the same for a week, with its own leaderboard.

Is anyone still playing it?

Fewer people than at launch. Forum threads from 2023 and 2024 show players on the daily, with short leaderboards.
