THEATERLE Character Guesser
Rate itName the day's mystery Broadway character in eight guesses, from show, year, role, composer and gender clues.
Every day: One mystery Broadway character a day, dated and the same for every player, to name in eight guesses. New puzzle: Midnight.

The Character Guesser is THEATERLE's second daily game: one mystery character from a Broadway musical each day, named in eight guesses. Every guess shows how your character compares with the answer on its show, the show's premiere year, lead or supporting role, composer and gender, so you narrow it down by era and production.
About THEATERLE Character Guesser
The Character Guesser sits beside THEATERLE's Show Guesser, where you name a mystery musical. Here the answer is a person on stage instead: one character from a Broadway musical, chosen fresh each day at midnight and the same for everyone. The board is dated, and you have eight guesses.
You type any Broadway character into the guess box, with an autocomplete list to keep guesses valid, and each guess fills a row of five clues. Show turns green when your character comes from the same musical. Year compares the premiere years of the two shows, gold when close, with an arrow pointing earlier or later. Role says whether the part is a lead or a supporting one, Composer whether the two shows share a composer, and Gender whether that matches. Burgundy means no match.
A good game usually starts wide, with a well-known character from a mid-era show, follows the year arrows to the right decade, and switches to that musical's cast once Show turns green. When you finish you can share a grid of coloured squares that gives nothing away. A Practice mode lets you play between dailies, and the site has guides to hundreds of shows and characters.
It is free, needs no account and keeps your streak on your device. It suits musical theatre fans who know casts as well as titles, and players of attribute guessing games such as the character -dles.
How to play THEATERLE Character Guesser
- Type a Broadway character into the guess box and pick one from the list.
- Read the row of clues: show, premiere year, role, composer and gender.
- Green is an exact match, gold is close, burgundy is no match; the year arrow points toward the answer's premiere year.
- Use the clues to narrow the musical and the part, then guess again.
- Name the character within eight guesses and share your grid.
Tips
- Open with a famous character from a mid-era show so the year arrow splits the field either way.
- Once Show turns green, guess other characters from that same musical.
- The Composer clue can point you to a whole catalogue of shows at once.
- Use Practice mode to get quicker at reading the columns.
