AFL Wordle's Simple daily board on Draft Challenger: a Find a player box with a Lock guess button, 0 of 8 guesses, and columns for player, club, number and seasons

AFL Wordle on Draft Challenger is a daily guess-the-player game for Australian rules football. The Simple board gives eight tries with club, number and seasons clues, and the Classic board gives fifteen guesses at a player from the whole VFL/AFL record since 1897, judged against one of their real seasons.

About AFL Wordle (Draft Challenger)

AFL Wordle is part of Draft Challenger, a sports site that runs the same daily boards for several sports and a draft game, 26-0, with no daily limit. It describes itself as AFL Wordle in the way that matters: one player a day, a fixed number of attempts and colour-coded rows.

On the Simple board you find a player and lock in a guess, and each row compares your player's club, number and seasons with the answer: green for a match, gold for close, red for a miss. Eight names is the limit. Classic is harder. The answer is any AFL or VFL footballer with a real senior career, from 1897 to last season. You start with the era, one fact and a free example; after four misses the club's city is revealed, and after seven another fact, with the option to open the answer. Each guess is set against the answer's real season on kicks, handballs, disposals, tackles and games, with arrows toward the right number. All-Australian selections, the Brownlow and the Coleman can show on the answer's card.

Both boards change at midnight US Eastern time, which is the afternoon in Melbourne, so Australian and American players share the same day. The two modes keep separate streaks, stored on the device you play on, and there is no unlimited mode.

Simple suits followers of today's lists; Classic suits fans who know the game's history club by club.

How to play AFL Wordle (Draft Challenger)

  1. Open AFL Wordle on draftchallenger.com and choose Simple or Classic.
  2. Find a player in the search box and press Lock guess.
  3. Read the row: green is a match, gold is close, red is a miss, and arrows point toward the answer's numbers.
  4. In Classic, use the era, the club city after four misses and the extra fact after seven.
  5. Name the player within eight tries in Simple or fifteen in Classic, then wait for the next board.

Tips

  • In Classic, open with a decorated player from the 1990s or 2000s: the era lands at once and the club list shortens.
  • With so few clubs over such a long history, the decade is usually the clue that moves you furthest.
  • A reveal ends the day but does not count as a win, so your streak restarts.
