CDL Wordle takes the guess-the-player format that football and esports fans know and points it at the Call of Duty League, the professional Call of Duty circuit. Each day the site picks one pro, and every visitor that day is hunting for the same name.

You type a gamertag into the search box, choose the player from the list that drops down and press Guess. The guess appears as a row of cells: nationality, age, championship rings, match wins and whether that player has been a teammate of the mystery pro. A green cell is an exact match, a yellow one means a number is close, and an arrow beside a number tells you whether the answer is higher or lower. You have six guesses to land on the right player.

The player pool covers current and past CDL rosters, so names from teams such as Atlanta FaZe and the LA Guerrillas sit beside less famous pros. A countdown above the board shows how long until the next player. Your stats, with games played, win rate and streaks, are kept in the browser, and a share button copies your result grid without giving the answer away.

It is free to play in a browser with no account, and the page carries ads. It suits Call of Duty League followers who know the rosters well; a casual Call of Duty player will find the numbers harder to place.

How to play CDL Wordle

1. Type part of a CDL pro's gamertag into the search box.
2. Pick the player from the list that drops down and press Guess.
3. Read the row: green is an exact match, yellow is a close number, and an arrow shows whether the answer's age, rings or wins are higher or lower.
4. Check the Teammate column to see whether your guess has played alongside the mystery pro.
5. Narrow it down and name the player within six guesses, then share your grid.

Tips

• Open with a veteran who has played on several teams: a Yes in the Teammate column cuts the field quickly.
• Use the ring count early: most pros have none, so a match on two or more rings leaves only a short list of title winners.
• The age arrow is often the fastest filter once you know the nationality.
