The Daily Lineup with a Pokemon games card to reveal and the film Fargo, 1996, placed on the timeline

The Daily Lineup is the daily puzzle from Timeline Guesser. Ten cards from different decks, such as films, albums, inventions and US presidents, all go on one timeline by year. Get all ten in order before three wrong placements end the run, and come back for a new numbered Lineup the next day.

About The Daily Lineup

The Daily Lineup is the daily mode of Timeline Guesser, a site of year-ordering card decks. The site has decks on single topics like movies, albums, game consoles and modern history; the daily mode mixes cards from several of them into one shared puzzle.

Each Lineup is numbered and has ten cards. One card starts on the timeline with its year showing. For each of the others, you slide through the stack to choose which category to take next, tap to reveal the card, then drop it where you think it belongs on the timeline. Each card shows its title and a short detail, such as the director of a film.

A wrong placement counts as a strike, and three strikes end the run. The goal is to place all ten. The counters at the top track how many you have placed and how many in a row. A new Lineup comes out at midnight Central time, and the page links to the full decks the day's cards were taken from.

What makes it different is that you are comparing years across topics: is a game console older than a particular album? Being able to choose which category to reveal next adds a small amount of strategy. It suits general knowledge fans more than history specialists.

How to play The Daily Lineup

  1. Open The Daily Lineup and look at the first card already on the timeline.
  2. Slide through the stack and pick the category you want to play next.
  3. Tap the card to reveal it.
  4. Drop it on the timeline where you think its year falls.
  5. Place all ten cards before you make three wrong guesses.

Tips

  • Reveal the categories you know best first, while the timeline still has big gaps.
  • Use cards already placed as anchors and compare only with their neighbours.
  • Save the hardest category for last, when the gaps are narrower and a strike costs less.
