Timdle is a free daily timeline game. Each day gives you nine historical events, from the printing press to the first iPhone; one is already on the line, and you place the other eight one at a time in chronological order. Every placement is checked at once, and each miss costs a point.

About Timdle

Timdle asks for a feel for when things happened rather than exact dates. The daily round holds nine events drawn from every era and part of the world. One of them is pinned to the timeline as an anchor, and you place the remaining eight one by one, earliest to latest.

Each placement is checked the moment you make it, so you learn straight away whether the Suez Canal opened before or after the telephone was invented, and you must get the current card right before moving on. Every card is worth points and every wrong guess costs one, so the score rewards fewer misses. A round takes about two minutes, and you can compare your result with everyone else who played that day.

A new timeline arrives at midnight in your own time zone, and no account is needed to play it. Around the daily game Timdle has an endless mode that runs until your first mistake, a music timeline of songs by release year, a maths mode for ordering expressions, nearly a hundred community-made timelines, leagues and an archive of every past puzzle.

How to play Timdle

  1. Look at the pinned event that anchors the day's timeline.
  2. Take the next event card and place it before or after the events already on the line.
  3. If the placement is wrong, try again; each miss costs a point.
  4. Place all eight events correctly to finish the timeline.
  5. Compare your score with other players and come back the next day.

Tips

  • Place cards relative to each other, not to exact years; the order is all that counts.
  • Use the anchored event to split the timeline into before and after.
  • Play the archive to get a feel for how far apart eras really are.
