A Sunflowers daily 7x7 garden: shaded clue squares with numbers from 0 to 5 among empty squares, with a hint bulb above

Sunflowers is a free daily logic puzzle from PZL games. Each day's numbered garden is a grid of shaded clue squares; every number tells you how many of the eight squares around it hold a sunflower. Fill in the flowers and empty squares until every clue is met.

About Sunflowers (PZL games)

Sunflowers is one of the original daily games on PZL games, a small puzzle site run by Perfect Level Games Ltd that also makes 18 Words, Zanagrams and Middle Word. A new numbered puzzle appears each day for everyone, and earlier days stay playable from Past puzzles.

The rules are close to Minesweeper with all the information on the board from the start. Some squares carry a number; the number counts the sunflowers in the eight squares that touch it, diagonals included. Clue squares never hold a flower themselves. From those counts you work out which open squares must have a sunflower and which must stay empty, and each puzzle has a single solution that does not need guessing.

The daily grid is 7x7, after a short 4x4 tutorial for new players. There is a pencil mode for trial marks you can accept or discard, a limited number of hints, and an explanation when you place a flower that breaks a clue. A harder Sunflowers Master sits beside it on the same site.

It suits players who like Minesweeper's logic but want a short, guess-free puzzle a day.

How to play Sunflowers (PZL games)

  1. Open Sunflowers on PZL games; skip or play the short tutorial.
  2. Read the numbered squares: each counts the sunflowers in the eight squares touching it.
  3. Double-click a square to plant a sunflower, and mark squares you know are empty.
  4. Start from 0 clues, whose neighbours are all empty, and from clues that need every open neighbour filled.
  5. Keep going until every number is satisfied, then share your time.

Tips

  • A 0 empties all of its neighbours at once: clear those first.
  • Compare two clues side by side: the squares they do not share often settle the count.
  • Use pencil mode to test an idea without committing to it.
