SoundByte
Name the day's song from one second of audio, with a second more after each miss.
Every day: One numbered mystery song a day (day 1 was 1 January 2026), the same for everyone: start with one second of audio and get one more second after each wrong guess, six tries in all. New puzzle: Midnight UTC.

SoundByte is a daily song-guessing game in the style of Heardle. Everyone gets the same mystery song each day and starts with just one second of it; each wrong guess adds another second, up to six tries. A first-try answer is worth 1000 points, and a streak counts the days you get it.
About SoundByte
SoundByte is a small browser music quiz on itch.io. Each day there is one mystery song, numbered from the game's first day on 1 January 2026, and every player hears the same one. The clip starts at a single second. If you cannot name it, or guess wrong, the next try plays one second more, and you have six tries to get there.
Scoring rewards an early answer: getting the song on the first try is worth 1000 points, and later tries are worth less. The game keeps a daily streak of days you solved it, and when you finish you can share your score so friends can see how quickly you got it without giving the song away.
The clips are short previews of well-known songs, and the day changes at midnight UTC. The song list is short, so a regular player will hear songs come round again after a few weeks. Like other Heardle-style games, it suits people who know their music by its opening notes.
How to play SoundByte
- Open SoundByte on itch.io and play today's one-second clip.
- Type the song you think it is and submit, or skip to hear more.
- Each wrong guess or skip adds one more second of audio.
- Name the song within six tries; the earlier you get it, the more points you score.
- Share your result and come back tomorrow to keep your streak.
Tips
- Listen for the instrument or voice that opens the song: one second is often enough to tell a guitar riff from a synth.
- Skipping costs a try just like a wrong guess, so guess when you have a real idea.
- Think about the era: production style often narrows the decade before you know the song.
