Heardle Decades

A whole family of daily Heardles: name the song from its first seconds, sorted by decade, chart, genre or artist.

Every day: Each Heardle on the site (by decade, by chart, by genre, by artist and more) has one song a day, the same for every player, which you name from its opening seconds, with more of the clip unlocked after each skip or wrong guess. New puzzle: Midnight, your local time.

Title card for the Heardle 80s No. 1s game

Heardle Decades is a hub of daily song-guessing games. Pick a decade, a number ones chart, a genre or a single artist, listen to the first second of the day's song and name it, with a longer clip unlocked after every miss. Each game has its own song of the day and its own stats, so you can play one or work through a dozen.

About Heardle Decades

Heardle Decades collects dozens of separate Heardle games on one site. There are games for each decade from the 1950s to the 2020s, number ones games for the UK, USA, Canada and Australia, genre games from reggae and Motown to metal and K-pop, games built around stage and screen music, and artist games for acts such as The Beatles, ABBA and Taylor Swift. The 1980s number ones game counts its puzzles from June 2022.

Every game works the same way. You press play and hear the very start of the day's song. Type part of a title or artist, pick the right song from the list and submit. A skip or a wrong answer unlocks a longer stretch of the intro, by default 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and finally 12 seconds, and you have six attempts in all. When the round ends you can share a spoiler-free score and see a countdown to the next song.

The games play audio either from SoundCloud, starting at the very beginning of the track, or from a Deezer clip that starts at the hook; you can switch between these modes. A calendar lets you go back to earlier days, and stats are kept per game.

It suits listeners who know a particular era or style well and want more than one song a day. If you prefer hearing a song built up instrument by instrument, or guessing the artist rather than the track, the daily games listed below are close cousins.

Tips

  • Skipping costs the same as a wrong guess, so make a guess if you have any idea at all.
  • Listen for the instrument that opens the track and the production style: it often places a song within a few years.
  • On the number ones games the answer was a chart topper, so lean towards the big hits of the era.
  • If a clip will not load, try switching between the SoundCloud and Deezer play modes.
