Songless

Name a song you know from a clip that starts at a tenth of a second.

Every day: A daily song in each of three categories (All, Rock and Hip Hop), the same for everyone, to name from a clip that starts at about a tenth of a second and grows with each skip or wrong guess. New puzzle: Midnight New York time (the game dates each day in the America/New_York time zone).

Songless is the music game on Lessgames. Each day it plays a well-known song in tiny slices, starting from about a tenth of a second, and you try to name it before the clip gets long. There are separate daily songs for all genres, rock and hip hop.

About Songless

Songless is one of the small daily games on Lessgames, a site that also runs games such as Moreless and Mapless. Its pitch is in the site's own description: you know this song, but can you name it from just 0.1 seconds? The answer is always a familiar track, and the challenge is how little of it you need.

The first clip is a fraction of a second, barely more than a single note or drum hit. If you cannot place it, you skip or guess, and the next clip is longer. The clip keeps growing with each try until you name the song or run out of chances. You pick your answer by searching for the title or artist, so you only have to recognise it, not spell it.

There are three daily categories, each with its own song: All, which draws on popular music in general, Rock and Hip Hop. The daily songs began on 29 August 2025, and Lessgames counts each day on New York time. Your results are kept so you can build a streak and share them without spoiling the answer.

Playing the daily songs is free. Lessgames also sells a subscription, and its features include an archive of past days, so you can go back to songs you missed.

How to play Songless

  1. Open Songless on lessgames.com and pick a category: All, Rock or Hip Hop.
  2. Press play to hear the opening fraction of a second of today's song.
  3. Search for the title or artist and submit a guess, or skip to unlock a longer clip.
  4. Keep going as the clip grows until you name the song or run out of tries, then share your result.

Tips

  • Listen for texture rather than melody at first: a distorted guitar, a drum machine or a breathy vocal says a lot in a tenth of a second.
  • Play the category you know best first, then try the others for a harder test.
  • Skip rather than guess when the first clip means nothing to you; a longer clip is worth more than a random answer.
  • Play the clip more than once before deciding; short sounds are easy to mishear the first time.
