Guess The Album Cover

The GuessTheAudio logo

GuessTheAudio plays a few seconds of one song each day and gives you six guesses to name it. Each wrong guess or skip lets you hear more, along with a hint. A second daily mode, Guess The Album Cover, uncovers an album cover piece by piece.

About GuessTheAudio

GuessTheAudio is a daily song quiz in the browser, a sister site of Guess The Game, which does the same thing with video game screenshots. Its numbered puzzles started in May 2023. The site says it picks songs across genres, years and artists, from current chart hits to the songs your parents played when you were small.

A day starts with a clip of well under a second. You search for the song you think it is and submit it, or skip. Each miss plays a longer snippet, up to about nine seconds by the sixth try, and adds a hint: the track length, then the release year, the genre, the album and finally the artist. Solve it or run out of tries and you get a shareable result with the puzzle number, and the song can be opened in a music player.

Beside the song there is Guess The Album Cover, a second daily puzzle in which an album cover is shown a few tiles at a time and you have five guesses. The previous games page lets you go back to earlier songs, and the site keeps statistics and a listening rank that rises as you solve more. An optional paid membership removes ads, syncs stats across devices and opens cover puzzles and past cover days.

Compared with Heardle-style games, which always play from the very start of a song, the clip here grows in uneven steps and the text hints mean you can still get there by reasoning about year, genre and album. It suits people with a broad ear for pop, rock and hip hop who want a two minute music puzzle each day.

How to play GuessTheAudio

  1. Press play to hear the first snippet of today's song.
  2. Type in the search box and pick the song you think it is, or press skip.
  3. After a wrong guess or a skip, play the longer snippet and read the new hint.
  4. Keep going until you name the song or use all six tries.
  5. Share your result, then try the day's album cover puzzle.

Tips

  • The first clip is under half a second, so listen for the instrument or the voice rather than the melody.
  • Skipping costs a try just like a wrong guess, but it is worth it when you have no idea: the release year and genre hints come with the next tries.
  • Search by the song title, not the artist; the answer list matches titles.
  • If you miss a day, the previous games page lets you play it later.
