Rhumdle Daily Puzzle #230, stage 1: a compass with arrows from the hidden city to Harare 400 km and Maputo 1.3k km, six lives and a city search box

Rhumdle is a free geography game about compass bearings on a round Earth. Its daily puzzle has three stages: find a hidden city from arrows pointing to known cities, drag the needle to the bearing toward a bonus city, then lock a bearing and estimate the distance to a final city. You have six lives for the whole puzzle.

About Rhumdle

Rhumdle is built on one idea: the shortest route between two places on a globe does not follow the straight line you see on a flat map, so the direction you set off in is often a surprise. The arcade mode simply shows two cities and asks you to drag a compass needle from the first toward the second along the shortest path.

The Daily Puzzle, numbered and the same for everyone, goes further in three stages. First you find the city: arrows point from the hidden target toward known cities, with their direction and distance, starting with two clues. A wrong guess places a cross on the compass and costs a life, and a hint reveals another arrow for a life. Second, you drag the needle to the bearing from the target to a bonus city. Third, you lock in a bearing and drag along it to estimate how far away the final city is.

Six lives are shared across the whole puzzle. Stage one is graded by how many guesses you took, from Brilliant at one or two to Missed, and bearing guesses are graded by how many degrees off they are, from Perfect to Off. Arcade has Blitz, Survival and Streak modes, and Squads let you play with friends. The site carries no ads.

It suits geography players who like Worldle's distance and direction arrows and want to train their sense of the globe itself.

How to play Rhumdle

  1. Open the Daily Puzzle and look at the arrows pointing from the hidden city toward known cities.
  2. Search for a city and guess the hidden target; a wrong guess costs one of your six lives.
  3. Use Hint to reveal another arrow if you need it, at the cost of a life.
  4. In stage two, drag the needle to the bearing from the target to the bonus city.
  5. In stage three, lock in a bearing and drag along it to estimate the distance to the final city.

Tips

  • Read the distances as well as the directions; two arrows usually narrow the target to one region.
  • Remember that long routes bend toward the poles, so a city due east on a map may start out north-east.
  • Save lives for stage one; hints there are often worth more than a wild guess.
