Planespottle daily screen: a tightly zoomed photo of an aircraft fuselage beside make, model and airline menus and a Guess (5 left) button

Planespottle is a daily aircraft guessing game by bytecatch. Each day shows a tightly zoomed photo of an airliner, and you pick a make, model and airline from drop-down lists; every wrong guess zooms out to reveal more of the plane, and you have five guesses.

About Planespottle

Planespottle describes itself as Wordle for planes, a daily guessing game for aviation enthusiasts. It is made by bytecatch, the small studio that also runs Airport Guessr and is working on its first indie game for Steam.

Each day there is a new challenge. You see a zoomed-in crop of an aircraft photo and choose a make (such as Airbus or Boeing), a model and an airline from three menus, then guess. Each incorrect guess reveals more of the plane, so the challenge is to spot it as early as you can. You have five guesses in all, and you can share your score grid without revealing the answer.

When the daily is done, Infinite mode serves random planes and airlines without stakes, and a quiz hub has airplane, airline and tail design quizzes. The site is available in English, German, French and Japanese.

It suits planespotters, frequent flyers and anyone who can tell an A320 from a 737 at a glance.

How to play Planespottle

  1. Open planespottle.net and choose Daily.
  2. Study the zoomed-in photo of the aircraft.
  3. Select a make, model and airline and submit your guess.
  4. Each wrong guess reveals more of the plane; get all three right within five guesses, then share your grid.

Tips

  • Window spacing, door shapes and engine nacelles are often visible even in a tight crop.
  • Livery colours can give away the airline before the type.
  • Practise in Infinite mode or the tail design quiz to sharpen your eye.
