Cropple
Name the day's photo from a tight crop, zooming out as little as you can.
Every day: One numbered photo a day, the same for everyone, shown as a tight crop: name what it is, zooming out one level at a time, in up to six steps. New puzzle: Midnight UTC, when the game's countdown runs out.

Cropple shows a small, tightly cropped piece of a photo and asks what it is. Each zoom out shows more of the picture, over six levels, and you can buy a letter of the answer as a hint. The fewer zooms and hints you need, the better your score.
About Cropple
Cropple is a daily picture-guessing game. Every day there is one numbered puzzle, a photo hidden behind a crop so tight it might be a texture, a pattern or a blur of colour. You type what you think it shows on an on-screen keyboard.
If you are not sure, you zoom out and see a wider view. There are six levels in all, and the last gives up the answer. A hint button reveals the first letter, then more letters, at a cost to your result. Your share line shows how many zooms and hints you used, and your streak.
Past puzzles, numbered back to the first, are in the archive. The site also hosts community-made Cropples, and its iOS and Android apps let you turn your own photo into a puzzle: choose the tightest crop, set how fast it opens up and type the answer, then share a link anyone can play in a browser. The game can be played in several languages.
The apps are published by Leon Aves. Cropple suits players who like close-up photo quizzes and spotting everyday things from an odd angle.

Tips
- Think about texture and material first: wood, fabric, metal or skin narrow it fast.
- Answers are short, usually one to three words, so name the thing itself.
- A letter hint costs less than guessing blind at the last level.
- Play past numbers in the archive to learn the kind of photos the game uses.
