WotsThat
Name the everyday object in an extreme close-up photo.
Every day: One numbered close-up picture a day, the same for every player: name the object in the extreme close-up, with a daily board for the fastest solves and longest streaks. New puzzle: Midnight UTC.

WotsThat Daily shows one zoomed-in photo of something ordinary, such as tree bark, a croissant or a snail shell, and asks what it is. Everyone gets the same picture, your time and guess count go on the day's board, and the share card never shows the answer. A separate Play mode lets players upload their own stumpers.
About WotsThat
WotsThat is a picture quiz built on close-ups. The photo is cropped or magnified so far that a familiar thing turns strange: the surface of a cinnamon donut, the felt of a tennis ball, a fingerprint, the groove of a vinyl record. Your job is to say what it is.
The Daily is one numbered puzzle a day that everyone shares. Your timer starts when you reveal the image, spelling does not have to be perfect, and close answers count. A hint appears under the picture if you are stuck, and if you give up the game tells you the answer with a fun fact. Guessing on consecutive days builds a Daily streak, and the day's board shows the fastest solvers and the longest streaks. The Daily needs no account.
Alongside it, WotsThat runs a separate Play game where members upload their own baffling close-ups, earn points when others guess wrong, and climb a monthly board, with a book prize for the month's top scorer. It suits anyone who likes a quick visual puzzle and does not mind a bit of squinting.
How to play WotsThat
- Open WotsThat Daily to load the day's close-up photo.
- Reveal the image; your timer starts at that moment.
- Type what you think the object is and submit. Close spellings count.
- Use the hint under the image if you are stuck, or give up to see the answer and a fun fact.
- Share your result card, which shows your guess count and time but not the answer.
Tips
- Think about texture before shape: grain, fibres or crystals often point to wood, fabric or minerals.
- Food turns up a lot, so consider the kitchen when nothing else fits.
- A wrong guess costs nothing in the Daily, so try broad answers before specific ones.
- Play every day to keep your Daily streak, which is tracked separately from the Play game.
