MapMorph board: a white country silhouette on a dark background, 0 of 6 guesses, and two boxes for Country 1 and an optional Country 2

MapMorph is a daily geography puzzle in the style of Worldle with a twist: some days the silhouette is one country, and some days it is two neighbours joined together. You enter one country, or two for a pair, and get the distance and direction to the target, with six guesses in all.

About MapMorph

Each day MapMorph shows the outline of a country, or of two countries that share a border, drawn as one shape. You type one country, or two countries when you think it is a pair. Each guess shows the distance and direction to the target, and countries turn green when they are part of the answer and red when they are not. You have six guesses.

The puzzle rolls over at midnight UTC, so depending on your time zone the new one may arrive in the middle of your day. Days are numbered, and a spoiler-free share card shows the day number, your score and a grid of squares. Stats include games played, win percentage, current and longest streaks and a guess distribution, and past puzzles can be played from an archive.

You can play as a guest; an optional account keeps your history across devices and lets you create or join private leagues ranked by average score. It suits Worldle players who want borders to matter as much as shapes.

How to play MapMorph

  1. Open mapmorph.net and look at today's silhouette.
  2. Decide whether it is one country or two neighbours joined together.
  3. Enter one country, or two countries for a pair guess.
  4. Use the distance and direction, and the green or red marks, to choose your next guess.
  5. Find the answer within six guesses and share your result.

Tips

  • Look for a long, straight or oddly placed seam inside the shape; that is often where two countries meet.
  • If a pair guess shows one green country, keep it and change the other.
  • Coastlines are the most recognisable part of a silhouette, so start there.
