Play LINEX

LINEX Game #508 with an empty grid, a four-cell piece being drawn, the helper counters and the how-to-play panel

LINEX is a daily block-placement game where you draw each piece onto a grid to complete horizontal and vertical lines. Everyone gets the same pieces, in the same order, with the same blocked cells, so the daily leaderboard compares like with like.

About Linex

LINEX looks a little like a falling-block game turned into a puzzle. A small grid sits in front of you and the current piece is shown in red at the top. You draw it onto the board cell by cell, as it is or turned 90 or 180 degrees, and every full row or column you make clears and counts as a line. The aim is to clear as many lines as possible; time only breaks ties.

As the game goes on, cells marked with an X start to appear, and a line that passes through one cannot be completed. Helpers keep you going: you can choose a different piece, erase a blocked cell or skip the current piece, and you earn more of them by clearing lines across them.

Each day's game is numbered and identical for everyone: the order of the pieces, how often each appears and the number of blocked cells are all fixed for the day. Monday is the easiest and Sunday the hardest. With a free account you can publish your best result, collect points and medals, keep a league of friends and send a few direct duel challenges a day; you can also play as a guest without saving.

It suits players who like Blockudoku-style placement games but want a fair, shared board and a daily ranking to aim at.

How to play Linex

  1. Open the day's game and look at the red piece shown at the top right.
  2. Tap the board cells to draw that piece, as shown or rotated, and complete full rows or columns to clear them.
  3. Avoid relying on lines that pass through blocked X cells, and use the helpers (choose a piece, erase an X, skip a piece) when you are stuck.
  4. Keep going until no piece fits, then sign in to publish your line count and time on the daily leaderboard.

Tips

  • Keep a few rows and columns open rather than filling the board evenly, so long pieces always have somewhere to go.
  • Clear lines that pass over helpers early to build up your stock before the X cells arrive.
  • Save the erase helper for X cells that block several near-complete lines at once.
  • Expect a harder board as the week goes on: Monday is the easiest day and Sunday the hardest.
