A Cantle board in progress: a web of joined dots, some coloured amber, blue and pink with shapes, others still empty

Cantle is a daily graph-colouring puzzle for iPhone and Android with one rule: two dots joined by a line can never share a colour. Every board has exactly one solution with four colours, and everyone plays the same board each day, compared on global and friends leaderboards.

About Cantle

A Cantle board is a web of dots joined by lines, some already coloured. You fill the rest from four colours, amber, sky, jade and orchid, so that no two joined dots ever match. Four colours are always enough, because every board is planar, and each board is checked to have one unique solution. There is no hidden information and no luck. Each colour also carries a shape, so the puzzle works without telling colours apart.

A new Standard board arrives every day, the same for everyone. When you finish, your time is placed against every other player who took on the same board, or just against friends added by code. The day's leaderboard closes at midnight UTC. A streak counts your days in a row, and freezes earned by playing consistently can cover a missed day.

Practice gives unlimited generated boards across difficulty tiers, which never touch your streak. Duels set the same puzzle for you and a friend, with twenty-four hours to answer. The maker's site adds a set of solving tips, such as taking forced moves first: a dot whose neighbours already show three colours has only one left.

Cantle is made by Yurii Halas and came out in September 2026. It is free with no advertising and no account; an anonymous profile is made on first launch. An optional Pro subscription adds a second, Hard board each day with its own streak and leaderboard, the full archive and the two largest tiers. Board themes and symbol sets can be bought one by one.

How to play Cantle

  1. Open Cantle to today's Standard board.
  2. Pick a colour from the palette of four.
  3. Tap an empty dot to give it that colour; joined dots must never share one.
  4. Keep going until every dot is coloured with no clashes.
  5. Check your time and place on the leaderboard, then share your result.

Tips

  • Take forced moves first: a dot whose neighbours already show three colours has only one option.
  • Choose the colour from the palette before tapping, so each tap is one move.
  • A ring with an odd number of dots can never be filled with two colours alone.
  • When a clash appears, the mistake is often the move before the one you just made.
