Kyudoku daily puzzles on Puzzleship

Kyudoku asks you to choose nine cells from a grid of digits. Between them they must use each digit from 1 to 9 exactly once, and no row or column may add up to more than 9.

About Kyudoku (Puzzleship)

The two rules pull against each other: you need the large digits to complete the set, but large digits are what break a row or column total. Clicking a cell cycles it between ruled out, selected and clear, and bold cells are given selections.

Working from the top down helps. The 9 must stand alone in its row and column, an 8 can share only with a 1, and by the time you reach the small digits much of the grid has decided itself. A digit that appears only once in the grid must be chosen. Puzzleship also sells printable Kyudoku booklets.

Puzzleship publishes six grids of Kyudoku a day, graded from very easy to ultra hard. Each day's grids are numbered and dated, the same for every player, and appear at midnight in your own time zone; earlier days stay playable in the archive. The site is free with ads, and a premium plan removes them.

How to play Kyudoku (Puzzleship)

  1. Open Kyudoku and pick one of the day's six grids.
  2. Look for digits that appear only once; those cells must be chosen.
  3. Click a cell once to rule it out, twice to select it, a third time to clear.
  4. Select nine cells with each digit 1 to 9 exactly once.
  5. Keep every row and column total at 9 or below.

Tips

  • Place the 9 first; it rules out its whole row and column.
  • Work down from 8 and 7, which leave little room beside them.
  • Choose unique digits immediately.
  • Write running totals beside rows that are close to 9.
