Tallies daily puzzles on Puzzleship

Tallies fills a grid with numbers and gives each row and column a target. You decide which numbers to keep and which to delete so the kept ones add up to every target at once.

About Tallies (Puzzleship)

Tallies is a grid of numbers with a target beside every row and column. You mark each cell kept or deleted, and only kept cells count. A number sits in a row and a column at the same time, so deleting it to fix one total changes another, and no decision is ever local.

The arithmetic stays simple; the difficulty is in the interaction. A line whose undecided cells already add up to its target keeps them all, a line already at its target deletes the rest, and any cell larger than its row or column target goes straight away.

Puzzleship publishes six grids of Tallies a day, graded from very easy to ultra hard. Each day's grids are numbered and dated, the same for every player, and appear at midnight in your own time zone; earlier days stay playable in the archive. The site is free with ads, and a premium plan removes them.

How to play Tallies (Puzzleship)

  1. Open Tallies and pick one of the day's six grids.
  2. Read the target beside each row and column.
  3. Click a cell to delete it, click again to keep it, and again to reset.
  4. Make the kept cells in every row and column add up exactly to its target.
  5. Finish when every line matches.

Tips

  • Delete any number bigger than its row or column target first.
  • If a line's undecided cells sum to exactly what is missing, keep them all.
  • When a line needs one more number, the shortfall tells you which.
  • If no cell can make up the shortfall, an earlier decision was wrong.
