Halved on Freehand: a 3D cupcake on a wooden bench with a cutting plane through the icing, the line Cupcake, cut into equal weights, and a Commit button

Halved is a free daily cutting game from Freehand. A solid object sits on the bench, a pear, a bottle, a fish or a cupcake, and you place one cut so that the two pieces weigh the same. Five objects a day, one cut each, scored on how close to equal the halves come out.

About Halved (Freehand)

Halved is one of six daily judgement games on Freehand, alongside Angled, Dropped, Balanced, Counted and Timed. Each one tests your eye rather than what you know.

Here the test is mass. An object appears in 3D on a wooden bench, with a note on what it is made of, such as solid all through and one material. You slide a cutting plane along it and commit. The catch is that halfway along the length is almost never halfway by weight: the wide end holds most of the material, so the right cut usually sits closer to the thick end than you first think.

After each cut the two halves are weighed against each other and you are scored on how far off equal they were. There are five objects a day, the same five for everyone, and one attempt at the set. A multiplayer mode is new, and an archive is marked as coming soon.

It suits players who like quick tests of the eye such as cutting and angle games, and takes about a minute a day.

How to play Halved (Freehand)

  1. Open Halved and press Play under the day's date.
  2. Read the object's name and what it is made of.
  3. Slide the cut line along the object to where you think the weight splits evenly.
  4. Press Commit to cut and see how close the two halves came to equal weight.
  5. Do the same for the rest of the day's five objects and check your total.

Tips

  • Move the cut toward the thicker end: that is where most of the weight sits.
  • Picture the volume on each side, not the length; a narrow neck adds little.
  • Use the material note: an object that is not one material all through will not split where its shape suggests.
