Dodgeon, by Ludikatt, strips the arcade survival game down to one square, one arena and a flood of projectiles. There is nothing to shoot; the only question is how long you last.

Instead of an easy or hard setting, you build the challenge before each run. Pick one of nine powers, such as a dash, a teleport, a shield, slowed time or a decoy, or none at all, then assemble your enemies from fifteen types with their own behaviours: trackers, boomerangs, spirals, chargers, ghosts and projectiles that split. One to three enemy types make a ranked run, and each enemy set has its own leaderboard, 575 in all, on which every power competes.

The Daily Challenge sets a fixed combination each day, the same for every player, so it is a straight test of survival time against everyone else. The game has a minimalist neon look and runs on Windows and Linux.

It suits arcade players who like short, intense runs and a daily score to beat.

How to play Dodgeon

1. Launch Dodgeon on Steam and pick the Daily Challenge.
2. Move your square around the arena to avoid every projectile.
3. Use the day's power at the right moment to escape tight spots.
4. Survive as long as you can; your time goes on the day's leaderboard.

Tips

• Stay near the centre to keep escape routes in every direction.
• Save movement powers like dash or teleport for moments when you are boxed in.
