Daily Red Game in the browser

Daily Red Game in the browser: a FireRed battle of a level 100 Pelipper against Pikachu, with the move menu open beside today's challenge panel

Daily Red Game is a browser Pokémon battle on the FireRed engine. Each day everyone gets the same six random level 100 Pokémon from the first three generations and one attempt to beat the trainer RED and his fixed team of six. Win or lose, a new team arrives at midnight.

About Daily Red Game

Daily Red Game puts a Game Boy Advance era Pokémon battle in your browser and turns it into a daily challenge. The site is an independent, unofficial fan version of Daily Red, an open project by amoi-builds, and it runs the Pokémon FireRed engine in an mGBA emulator, so battles follow Generation III moves, abilities and rules.

Each calendar date picks a team of six level 100 Pokémon from Generations I to III, and every player on that date starts with the same six. Your opponent never changes: RED, waiting at the summit of Mt. Silver with Pikachu, Espeon, Snorlax, Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise. Before the fight you can open the menu, read your Pokémon's moves and reorder the party. Then you climb the steps, talk to RED and the battle begins.

The battle uses set style and no bag items, and you get one attempt a day: leaving or refreshing once it has started counts as a loss. Your battles, win rate, win streak and day streak are kept in your browser with no sign-up, and you can copy a result to share. A date picker lets you practise the starting team of any other date without touching your daily record.

Where most daily Pokémon games ask you to guess a Pokémon, this one asks you to use a team you did not choose against one of the series' best known rivals. It suits players who know their type matchups and enjoy a short, hard battle each day. The site is in English, Spanish, French and Italian, and is played with the keyboard or the on-screen buttons on a phone.

How to play Daily Red Game

  1. Open the site and press Play today's battle, then click the game so it takes your keyboard.
  2. Press Enter to open the menu and look at your six Pokémon, their moves and items; reorder the party so your best lead goes first.
  3. Walk up the stairs with the arrow keys and press X to talk to RED and start the battle.
  4. Choose attacks and switches each turn with the arrow keys, X to confirm and Z to go back, until all six of one side have fainted.
  5. Share your result if you like, and come back after local midnight for a new team.

Tips

  • Check your whole team's moves before you talk to RED: once the battle starts you cannot leave or refresh without a loss.
  • Read RED's team on the site first; his six Pokémon are the same every day, so you can plan answers to Charizard, Blastoise and Snorlax in advance.
  • Use the date practice to learn how the battle plays before you spend the day's attempt.

Questions

When does Daily Red Game reset?

At midnight in your device's local time zone. Everyone on the same calendar date gets the same starting team.

Do I need an account?

No. Your record and streaks are saved in your browser, so clearing site data resets them.

Can I play more than once a day?

The daily battle is one attempt. You can practise any date's team as often as you like, but practice runs are not saved to your record.

Is it an official Pokémon game?

No. It is an unofficial fan site based on the open Daily Red project by amoi-builds and is not affiliated with Pokémon's rights holders.
