Crux is a daily logic grid app for iPhone and iPad. Each day brings a set of classic deduction grids, the kind known as Einstein or Zebra puzzles, at several difficulties: read the clues, mark what cannot be true and work out how everything fits. Past days are kept in a calendar archive.

About Crux: Daily Logic Puzzles

A Crux puzzle gives you a few categories, such as furniture, a missing part and hours spent, and a list of clues. You mark crosses and ticks on the grid until each item is matched with exactly one item from every other category. Optional story themes turn the categories into short scenes, such as Grandma's Hidden Gems or Flat Pack Palava, so the same workout reads differently each day.

The home screen shows the date and that day's puzzles, from The Hunch, a two-category emoji grid, through Easy and Medium up to Hard and Expert, with richer clue types as the grids grow. A Red Herring mode adds fake clues and Deadline is a time trial. There are streaks, achievements, an interactive tutorial, curated puzzle packs and a Custom Builder for making and sharing your own grids. The app works offline and runs in six languages.

Crux is made by Josh Hills and came to the App Store in August 2026. It is free with no ads, and includes daily puzzles; a one-time Premium purchase adds the full daily archive, the Hard and Expert dailies, answer checking mid-puzzle, PDF export and more packs.

How to play Crux: Daily Logic Puzzles

  1. Open Crux and pick one of today's puzzles by difficulty.
  2. Read the clues in the Clues and Controls panel.
  3. Mark a cross where a pairing cannot be true and a tick where it must be.
  4. Carry each tick across the grid: a tick rules out every other cell in its row and column within that block.
  5. Fill the grid so every item is matched once in each category, then press Solve.

Tips

  • Start with clues that state a direct match or a direct exclusion.
  • Comparison clues, such as spent fewer hours than, rule out the extreme values at once.
  • When a row has only one empty cell left in a block, it must be a tick.
