EveryClue's Whodunit grid for Oct 3, 2026, The Crooked Man: a grid of five suspects with role, weapon, location and motive columns beside a case file of numbered clues

EveryClue is a daily whodunit logic puzzle. Each day's case gives five suspects, a set of honest clues and a grid of roles, weapons, locations and motives; match them all, and the one arrangement that fits every clue names the culprit.

About EveryClue

EveryClue publishes a new detective case every day at midnight UTC. The main format, the Whodunit grid, opens with the case facts (on 3 October 2026, The Crooked Man: the weapon is the scalpel, the scene is the smoking room, the motive is inheritance) and a case file of numbered clues such as "The row with sailor also has protection" or "If Moran's role is marksman, then their location is the smoking room".

Below sits a grid with five suspects down the side and columns for role, weapon, location and motive. You click a cell to cycle through its options and use the clues to rule things in and out. Clues tick themselves off as your grid satisfies them, Check tells you whether you are on track, and Lift a lantern reveals one of five gradual hints rather than the answer. Every case is checked by a solver to have one valid solution, so no guessing or outside knowledge is needed.

The site also has a daily lateral mystery, where you ask yes-or-no questions to work out a strange situation, and Crime Scene, a set of free room-map deduction levels. Cases come in many languages, past days are in the archive, and a leaderboard ranks solvers. You can play as a guest; signing in keeps a streak and puts you on the board. Paid theme packs, such as a Sherlock Holmes set, add extra cases.

It suits fans of Murdle and logic-grid puzzle books who want one case a day.

How to play EveryClue

  1. Open today's Whodunit grid and read the case facts at the top.
  2. Read the numbered clues in the case file on the right.
  3. Click a cell in the grid to cycle a suspect's role, weapon, location or motive; right-click clears it.
  4. Use Check to test your progress, and Lift a lantern for a gradual hint if stuck.
  5. When every clue is satisfied, Submit to name the culprit and share your result.

Tips

  • Start with the clues that fix a suspect to a row; they anchor everything else.
  • Treat each 'if ... then' clue as a rule to test once one side is known.
  • The case facts tell you which weapon, room and motive belong to the culprit: find the row that has all three.
  • Hints are gradual, so take one early rather than guessing.
