Yiddish Wordle is a free open-source version of Wordle in Yiddish. Each day there is one hidden five-letter word, the same for everyone, which you find in six guesses on an on-screen keyboard of Hebrew letters, including Yiddish forms such as pasekh alef, komets alef and the double vov.

About Yiddish Wordle (יידיש וואָרדל)

Yiddish Wordle adapts Wordle to Yiddish, written in the Hebrew alphabet from right to left. Its About panel describes it as an open-source clone of Wordle adapted to Yiddish by alephreish, built from Hannah Park's Wordle code by way of Aidan Pine's AnyLanguage-Wordle fork, with its word list taken from hunspell-yi, a Yiddish spelling dictionary.

The on-screen keyboard carries the letters a Yiddish word needs, including final forms and the Yiddish combinations: pasekh alef, komets alef, the double vov, vov yud and the double yud. You type a five-letter word, check it, and each tile turns green for a right letter in the right place, yellow for a letter in the word but elsewhere, and grey for a letter not in the word. The interface can be switched between languages, and a statistics panel tracks your games.

The word is chosen by counting days from 13 February 2022, so everyone gets the same word on the same date, and a new one comes at midnight in your own time zone. It runs in the browser with no account.

How to play Yiddish Wordle (יידיש וואָרדל)

  1. Open Yiddish Wordle and type a five-letter Yiddish word on the on-screen keyboard; it fills from right to left.
  2. Press the check key to submit it.
  3. Read the tiles: green is the right letter in the right place, yellow is in the word elsewhere, grey is not in the word.
  4. Use those clues in your next guess.
  5. Find the word in six tries or fewer.

Tips

  • Use the Yiddish letter forms the word needs, such as komets alef or the double yud; plain alef or two separate yuds count as different letters.
  • Remember the final forms of letters such as nun and mem when a word ends in them.
  • Open with a word that uses common letters like ayin, yud, nun and lamed.
