Latin Word Game by latindictionary.io: an empty grid of six rows of five tiles above a keyboard, with About and Restart buttons and links to Conexus

The Latin Word Game is a free Wordle in Latin from the online dictionary latindictionary.io. Each day there is one hidden five-letter Latin word, the same for everyone, to find in six guesses. Answers can be any Latin word or inflection, Classical, Archaic or Neo-Latin, and each one links to its dictionary entry.

About Latin Word Game (latindictionary.io)

latindictionary.io is a free online Latin dictionary, and its Latin Word Game puts Wordle into Latin for learners at every level. The rules are the familiar ones: guess the word in six tries, and after each guess the tiles turn green for a letter in the right place, yellow for a letter in the word but elsewhere, and grey for a letter not in it.

What makes it harder than it looks is the range of answers. According to its help, a possible answer is any Latin word or inflection from any period, Classical, Archaic or Neo-Latin, so a verb ending or a case form is as likely as a dictionary headword. Once the game is over the answer links to its entry in the dictionary, which turns a day's puzzle into a small vocabulary lesson.

The word is chosen by counting days from 14 December 2025, so every player gets the same word on the same date, and it changes at midnight on your own clock. The game is free with ads, needs no account and its code is open source. The same site runs Conexus, a daily Latin grouping puzzle.

How to play Latin Word Game (latindictionary.io)

  1. Open the Latin Word Game and type a five-letter Latin word or inflected form.
  2. Press ENTER to check it.
  3. Read the tiles: green is the right letter in the right place, yellow is in the word elsewhere, grey is not in the word.
  4. Use those clues, and your grammar, for the next guess.
  5. Find the word in six tries or fewer, then follow the link to its dictionary entry.

Tips

  • Think in endings: common inflections such as -orum, -arum, -ibus or -erunt can fix several letters at once.
  • Classical Latin has no J, W or Y in most words, so spend your guesses on vowels and common consonants.
  • An answer can be an inflected form rather than the headword you would look up.
