Bukvar
Wordle in Bosnian, with lj, nj and dž as single letters.
Every day: One hidden five-letter Bosnian word a day, the same for every player on the same date, to find in six guesses with coloured-tile feedback; an optional timer ranks you among the day's players. New puzzle: Midnight, local time.

Bukvar is a free Bosnian version of Wordle. Each day there is one hidden five-letter Bosnian word, the same for everyone, to find in six guesses on a keyboard where the letters lj, nj and dž each take one key and one tile. An optional timer ranks your solving time against the day's other players.
About Bukvar
Bukvar, named after the first reader Bosnian children learn their letters from, puts Wordle into the Bosnian language. The rules, Kako igrati?, are the familiar ones: guess the word in six tries, and after each try the tiles show how close you are. Green means the letter is in the right place, yellow that it is in the word but elsewhere, grey that it is not in the word.
The keyboard follows the Bosnian Latin alphabet, so č, ć, đ, š and ž have their own keys, and the digraphs lj, nj and dž are single letters, as they are in the language, taking one tile each. You submit a guess with Pošalji. Players can suggest new words for the list through the game, and on some days, such as International Women's Day, the answer is a special word for the occasion.
The word is picked by counting days from 28 December 2023, so everyone gets the same word on the same date, and a countdown shows when the next one arrives at midnight on your own clock. The statistics show how many people have played that day, and an optional stopwatch, which pauses when you are not actively playing, ranks your time. Bukvar is open source and needs no account.
How to play Bukvar
- Open Bukvar and type a five-letter Bosnian word; lj, nj and dž are one letter each.
- Press Pošalji to submit it.
- Read the tiles: green is the right letter in the right place, yellow is in the word elsewhere, grey is not in the word.
- Use those clues in your next guess.
- Find the word in six tries or fewer, and switch on the timer if you want a rank.
Tips
- Count lj, nj and dž as one letter when fitting a word to five tiles.
- Č and Ć are different letters, as are Đ and DŽ; check the colours on both.
- Open with a word rich in common letters such as a, e, i, o, r and n.
