8mal5
A German Wordle with eight tries, umlauts and ß, and daily words of four to nine letters.
Every day: One German word of the day for each length from four to nine letters, the same for every player, to find in eight guesses; it changes every day at 4:00 German time. New puzzle: 4:00 German time (CET/CEST).

8mal5 is a free German word game in the style of Wordle. Each day there is a word of the day at every length from four to nine letters, and you have eight guesses to find it, with Ä, Ö, Ü and ß on the keyboard. There is also a random mode and a way to send your own word to friends.
About 8mal5
8mal5 is a German take on Wordle, built from scratch in 2026 as a hobby project and free of ads. You type any German word, press Enter, and the tiles show which letters are in the right place, which are in the word elsewhere and which are not in it at all. You get eight tries rather than six, and the keyboard includes the umlauts and ß.
The daily word changes every day at 4:00 German time, and you can choose its length: four, five, six, seven, eight or nine letters. Daily answers are always base forms, although any word form, names included, is accepted as a guess. Yesterday's word can still be played. Your streak counts across all lengths and goes up with the first daily puzzle you win each day; losses do not break it.
Beyond the daily words there is a random mode for as many games as you like, and you can pick a word yourself and send it to friends as a link, so a group chat can all play the same puzzle. For a harder game you can cut the number of guesses, for example to six, or switch on a pro mode that only accepts base forms as guesses. Small touches help on a phone: swipe to change the word length, long-press Enter to fill in the green letters you already know.
How to play 8mal5
- Open 8mal5 and choose a word length from four to nine letters (five is the default).
- Type any German word of that length and press Enter.
- Read the colours: green for the right letter in the right place, yellow for a letter elsewhere in the word, grey for a letter not in it.
- Find the word of the day within eight tries.
- Share your result, then try the other lengths or come back after 4:00 German time.
Tips
- Daily answers are base forms, so do not expect plurals or conjugated verbs as the solution.
- Use the umlauts and ß early if vowels are not landing: they are separate letters here.
- Long-press Enter to insert every green letter you already know.
- Lower the number of guesses or turn on pro mode once eight tries feels easy.
