Wordle auf Deutsch (WELT)
Guess the day's five-letter German word in six tries.
Every day: One new five-letter German word a day, the same for every player, to find in six tries; the archive of older words is for WELTplus subscribers. New puzzle: Once a day; the site does not state the time.

WELT's Wordle auf Deutsch is the German newspaper's daily five-letter word game. You have six tries to find the word, with turquoise, orange and grey letters showing what is right. The daily puzzle is free; older puzzles are in an archive for WELTplus subscribers.
About Wordle auf Deutsch (WELT)
The Berlin daily WELT added a German version of Wordle to its games pages next to its crossword and sudoku, and puts a new puzzle there every day. The article that hosts the game retells the original's story, from Josh Wardle's launch in October 2021 to the sale to The New York Times in January 2022, and the game itself runs on a player from the puzzle service Rätselzentrale.
The rules are the familiar ones with WELT's own colours. You look for a five-letter word and have six tries. Each guess must be a real word, typed on the on-screen keyboard or your own and confirmed with enter. A letter in the right place turns turquoise, a letter that is in the word but elsewhere turns orange, and a letter that is not in the word turns grey. Letters can appear twice.
WELT is clear about what the answers can be: no names, no brands, no places and no plural forms. That narrows the field compared with some German versions and helps with tactics. Players who want more can open the archive of earlier puzzles, which sits behind WELT's WELTplus subscription.
How to play Wordle auf Deutsch (WELT)
- Open the WELT Wordle page and scroll to the game.
- Type a real five-letter German word and press enter.
- Read the colours: turquoise for the right letter in the right place, orange for a letter that belongs elsewhere, grey for a letter not in the word.
- Use the hints in your next guess, keeping in mind a letter can appear twice.
- Find the word within six tries and come back the next day for a new one.
Tips
- Skip plural forms as guesses for the answer: WELT says no answer is a plural.
- Names, brands and places never come up, so do not spend guesses on them.
- Start with a word using common German letters such as E, N, R, S and A.
