Dagens ord ("today's word") is the Danish newspaper Berlingske's daily word game. You have six tries to find a five-letter Danish word, and after each guess the letters turn grey, yellow or green to show what is in the answer and where.

About Dagens ord (Berlingske)

Dagens ord sits in the games and quiz section of Berlingske, the Copenhagen daily founded in 1749. It is a Danish version of the five-letter guessing game made popular by Wordle, and it runs on a puzzle player from the puzzle company Keesing.

Each day there is one hidden word of five letters. Every guess has to be a real Danish word, typed on the on-screen keyboard and sent with enter. The paper compares the feedback to the board game Mastermind: grey for letters not in the word, yellow for letters that are in it but in another place, and green for letters in the right place. The answer can contain the same letter more than once, and you have at most six guesses.

An archive page keeps earlier days playable, so you can catch up on words you missed. Because the guesses must be valid Danish, the game suits Danish speakers and learners who want daily practice with spelling, letters such as æ, ø and å included.

How to play Dagens ord (Berlingske)

  1. Open the day's Dagens ord on Berlingske.
  2. Type a five-letter Danish word with the on-screen keyboard and press enter.
  3. Read the colours: grey means the letter is not in the word, yellow means it is in another place, green means it is in the right place.
  4. Use what you learned to make your next guess, remembering a letter can appear twice.
  5. Find the word within six guesses, then try earlier days from the archive.

Tips

  • Open with a word that uses common Danish letters such as E, R, N, S and A.
  • Do not forget that the answer can repeat a letter.
  • Keep yellow letters in your next guess but move them to a new place to pin down where they belong.
