Wordle Ladino is a daily Wordle in Ladino, the Judaeo-Spanish language of the Sephardic Jews, written in the Latin alphabet. Each day everyone gets the same five-letter word and six tries to find it.

About Wordle Ladino

Wordle Ladino describes itself as a daily Ladino word game: guess the hidden Ladino word in six tries, with a new puzzle each day. It was made by Fatih Kadir Akın, who built a Kurdish version from the same code, and it moved from f.github.io to blog.fka.dev.

Ladino, or Judeo-Espanyol, grew out of the Spanish spoken by Jews expelled from Spain in 1492 and was carried to the Ottoman Empire and beyond. The game uses the Latin alphabet, so words look like Spanish with their own spelling (risko, djugo, grosh are in its list), and the help is in English. You type five-letter words; the tiles turn green, yellow or grey to show letters in the right place, in the word elsewhere, or not in it. The settings include a hard mode and high-contrast colours.

The word is picked by date, the same for all players, and changes at midnight. The page credits the original Wordle.

It suits Ladino speakers, learners and anyone interested in Sephardic culture; Spanish speakers will recognise many words.

How to play Wordle Ladino

  1. Open blog.fka.dev/wordle-ladino.
  2. Type a five-letter Ladino word and press Enter.
  3. Read the tiles: green for the right letter in the right place, yellow for a letter that is in the word elsewhere, grey for a letter not in the word.
  4. Find the word within six tries and come back the next day for a new one.

Tips

  • Ladino spelling writes sounds plainly: k where Spanish has c or qu, and sh and dj for other sounds.
  • Spanish vocabulary helps, but spellings differ; think of how the word sounds.
  • Turn on hard mode in the settings for a stricter game.
