Mot amagat ("hidden word") is the daily Occitan Wordle hosted by Jornalet, an Occitan-language news site. Every player gets the same five-letter Occitan word each day and has six tries to find it.

About Mot amagat (Jornalet)

Mot amagat calls itself the unofficial Occitan version of Wordle. It is hosted by Jornalet, a daily news site written in Occitan, and the help card credits the Occitan adaptation to Jornalet together with the Catalan Esperanto Association, whose Esperanto game Wordleo uses the same design. The card ends with "Cada jorn i a un nòu MOT AMAGAT": every day there is a new hidden word.

You type five-letter Occitan words and press Enter. Proper names, place names, plurals and conjugated verb forms are not accepted. Accents and the interpunct (the middle dot used in Occitan spelling) are ignored when you type, but Ç counts as its own letter and has a key. After each guess the tiles turn green for a letter in the right place, yellow for a letter that is in the word elsewhere, and grey for a letter that is not in it. The settings offer a hard mode and high-contrast colours.

The word is chosen by date, so it is the same for every player and changes at midnight.

It suits Occitan speakers in southern France, Val d'Aran and the Occitan valleys of Italy, and learners of the language.

How to play Mot amagat (Jornalet)

  1. Open www.jornalet.com/motamagat.
  2. Type a five-letter Occitan word and press Enter.
  3. Read the tiles: green for the right letter in the right place, yellow for a letter that is in the word elsewhere, grey for a letter not in the word.
  4. Find the word within six tries and come back the next day for a new one.

Tips

  • Answers are base forms: think of singular nouns, adjectives and infinitives, not plurals or conjugated verbs.
  • Type without accents or the middle dot; only Ç needs its own key.
