El Mot, formerly WordleCAT, is the daily Wordle in Catalan. Each day brings one numbered puzzle with a hidden five-letter Catalan word, the same for everyone, and six tries to find it.

About El Mot (WordleCAT)

El Mot started in 2022 as WordleCAT, one of the first Catalan versions of Wordle, and now runs under the name El Mot at gelozp.com/games/elmot (the old WordleCAT address points there). Its description, in Catalan, reads: guess the hidden word in six tries; every day there is a new word to guess.

You type five-letter Catalan words. After each guess the round tiles turn green for a letter in the right place, orange for a letter that is in the word elsewhere, and grey for a letter that is not in it. The rules say accents are ignored when you type words, and letters can repeat. Each daily puzzle carries a number, shown as El Mot #, which makes results easy to compare.

The word is chosen by date, the same for everyone, and changes at midnight. The page carries ads, and its makers run social accounts as @WordleCAT with occasional contests and a campaign for using Catalan in daily life.

It suits Catalan speakers and learners in Catalonia, Valencia, the Balearic Islands and beyond.

How to play El Mot (WordleCAT)

  1. Open gelozp.com/games/elmot.
  2. Type a five-letter Catalan word and press Enter.
  3. Read the tiles: green for the right letter in the right place, yellow for a letter that is in the word elsewhere, grey for a letter not in the word.
  4. Find the word within six tries and come back the next day for a new one.

Tips

  • Type without accents; the game matches à, é, ï and the like to their plain letters.
  • Catalan words often end in -a, -es or -ar; test endings early.
